Attracting customers beyond local quilt makers was a big challenge for a shop located inside of a small town. The majority of the existing customers were seniors who visit the shop to buy supplies or finish up their quilt projects.
As the students knew this business has been a dream for the owner, the team looked at multiple possible opportunities. After interviewing visitors to the shop and conducting competitive analysis on e-commerce sites, the team defined the unique advantage of the shop that seems to attract customers across the state border: unique products based on the western-U.S. themes. While posting western-U.S. theme products on an online e-commerce website, the student team also create a new flyer to attract tourists for gift shopping who pass through the town. Considering the restrictions that the quilt shop is located inside of town and putting a sign along the highway is regulated, the students identified a gas station next to the highway as a location for the flyers where travelers stop by for a break.
