The students ideated an electronic scooter rental service to give the youth something fun to do. The rentals would be done via an app to encourage young people to visit the downtown areas of Holdrege and eventually drive traffic to local businesses.

The local business association identified and presented the problem of population decline among young adults in rural Nebraska, to high school students who participated in this program. Local businesses and youth were interviewed by high school students to understand the reason behind this. Lack of entertainment options downtown, housing shortage and childcare were a few main reasons why young people migrated to larger towns. Students developed a solution for entertainment by offering electronic scooter rentals for young people to ride around downtown. It would be done via an app that would also ensure safety and security. The charges would be per minute of the ride. This would give the youth something to do in a rural town and stimulate the local business economy.  Thus, a thriving economy might make young adults decide to stay in or come back to rural Nebraska after finishing their further education or work projects. The solution was well received by the community business partner to retain the young population in rural Nebraska.
